At First Home, we build beautiful, affordable homes to SELL – not to rent – homes that hardworking Americans of all ages can be proud to own and afford to buy.
The housing crisis that exists in our country today has been caused primarily by one thing – GREED. Homelessness surged by over 18% in 2024 because corporate landlords prioritized profits over people’s well-being. Making a profit is essential for every business. Exploiting working Americans for endless financial gain is not, and the quest for ever more profit is tearing apart the very fabric of our society. We refuse to be part of the problem. We want to be part of the solution.
Most Americans are aware that a handful of large investors, working together as a buying Syndicate, have monopolized housing over the past several years, artificially inflating home prices and rents beyond what many working Americans can afford. This hasn’t been by accident — it’s a deliberate strategy to inflate their balance sheets to raise additional funds, but it has also sidelined an entire generation. The people running these companies don’t think working class Americans matter.
At First Home, we do, and we believe hard-working Americans, both young and old, deserve the chance to own an affordable home where they can lay their heads to rest, and build their futures.
This is why First Home sells only to individuals who want to live in our homes as their primary residence — not corporations or individual investors who want to use them as rentals.
If you agree with what we are trying to do, we hope you will support our efforts and invest in our projects. With your help, we can build affordable housing projects throughout the country and provide many of the homes so many hard- working Americans need. And as we do, take a stand against the unbridled greed that is threatening the American Dream and even Democracy for many members of our nation. It’s hard to be free and pursue your dreams, aspirations and happiness when your financial security is held hostage by the whims of an uncaring corporate landlord who chooses to increase rents every year, whether you got a raise at work or not. We want to make sure that doesn’t continue in the future.
To let younger Americans know that there are people in this Country that care about them and their futures.
Barry Ellsworth is the Founder, President, and Chairman of First Home Inc. Born in Tooele, Utah in 1954, Barry earned his BA in Communications from Brigham Young University in 1977 before embarking on a distinguished 40-plus-year career in the financial world. His early stints at Dean Witter Reynolds, Wilson Davis Securities, and Prudential Bache laid the groundwork for his later success, during which he raised hundreds of millions of dollars for various projects.
Barry’s entrepreneurial spirit shone brightly as he pioneered new business ventures across diverse industries, from defense, construction materials, food and beverage, to entertainment, energy, and large-scale industrial construction. As the founder, former CEO, and Chairman of Green Plains Renewable Energy (now Green Plains, Inc., NASDAQ: GPRE), he masterminded the financing and construction of the company’s first two ethanol plants—raising over $200 million in the process. Under his leadership, those plants were constructed in the middle of the lowest priced corn in the country, which laid the foundation for Green Plains to emerge as one of the world’s largest ethanol producers, helping to lower fuel costs nationwide and contributing to cleaner air in the United States and Canada by powering tens of millions of vehicles daily with environmentally friendly ethanol blends.
Barry is now channeling his extensive expertise and innovative approach to transform affordable housing through First Home Inc. Drawing on his experience in igniting municipal competition and constructing game-changing projects, he is determined to bring the same level of impact to communities nationwide.
In addition to his business achievements, Barry is the author of six books, two of which reached bestseller status in their respective genres. His dynamic career and relentless drive continue to inspire a new generation of innovators dedicated to making a lasting difference in their communities.
